The New Media Ringmaster
The Computer Place received it's December copy of The Harvard Business Review today. I was only semi-surprised to see Social Media Branding on the cover. There are 3 great articles but one peaked my interest the most. Patrick Spenner's "Why you need a New-Media Ringmaster" brings three key attributes of a ring master into play: Lean Collaboration Skills, Integrative Thinking and High Speed. I completely agree. I would post a link to the article, but it's not on-line yet. Get a hard copy and read this one yourself if you're in the social media space.

Fraud Prevention and Data Security
Continuing our quick blog posts on computer security this week, one can think of two main topics: Fraud Prevention and Data protection. Fraud prevention in this context is the actions one takes using processes or tools on the computer to prevent someone from taking your identity or personal information to impersonate you in a fradulent act. Data protection relates to the tools and processes to protect the data on your computer from being lost or destroyed from accident, theft or equipment failure. More later, but that is the setup. More here on Microsoft's site if you can't wait.

Computer and Data Security -
There are some short, quick and simple things that you as a user can do in order to protect yourself and your data. Some of our upcoming blogs from The Computer Place will be aimed at helping getting you to some tools easily. And while the tendency is to focus on the "software" or techie tools, we're going to just focus on some "process", "policy" or just plain "know how". We're also going to try to keep it in some "plain speak". We can start with this URL for the purpose of our next few blogs as it is sweet and simple Microsoft Computer Security.

Hensley-Elam acquires The Computer Place in London, Ky
Greetings,
It is with tremendous excitement that I get to announce the completion of the acquisition of The Computer Place (www.c-place.com) located in London, Ky.
The Computer Place is the leading IT infrastructure service delivery firm in south central Kentucky. Based in London, they have provided infrastructure support services in the communities around London including Manchester, Corbin, Barbourville and Williamsburg for the past 17 years for nearly 2300 clients.
The Computer Place brand, staff and location on 5th Street in London will begin to operate as a division of Hensley-Elam starting today October 1st. We're gaining 5 new staff members including The Computer Place management staff Mr. Bud Stuber, Mr. Roger Otis and Mrs. Judy Stuber as well as their service staff members Mr. John Halcomb and Mr. Doug Owens. Hensley-Elam has worked with these team members since our own companies founding and we're proud to call them friends first as well as team members now. This brings our full-time staff headcount to 19.
This is a strategic event for Hensley-Elam to continue to emerge as one of Kentucky's most reputable and effective full-service IT services firm. It is also our final planned acquisition for 2010.
The communities in The Computer Place's service area will immediately benefit from the internal technical resources, staff resources and certifications of Hensley-Elam in order to enhance the already strong resources available from The Computer Place. Additionally, the robust creative design and software development resources of Hensley-Elam will augment The Computer Place with services not previously in house and not often available in the community at all little less under one roof as they are now.
Thank you to the clients and strategic partners of Hensley-Elam that have helped us make this event happen and welcome to the 700 current clients of The Computer Place.
Cordially,
Russ Hensley, CEO
